Background and objective.

Writing and publishing scientific manuscripts is one of the most important components of academic practice and represents the culmination of a scientific activity.

We conduct an statistical review of publications of plastic surgeons and residents from Argentina during the last 10 years.

Methods.

A review in PubMed, LILACS, MEDES and SciELO databases was carried on to evaluate all articles with at least one plastic surgeon or resident from Argentina as an author between 2010 and 2020. The following data was collected: journal and year of publication, author´s affiliation, authorship order, theme, resident participation and their order of appearance.

Results.

A total of 247 articles were selected, 65% were published in English based journals and 35% in Spanish language journals. The Revista Argentina de Cirugía Plástica had the highest number of publications in Spanish journals whereas Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal and the Journal of Craneofacial Sugery had the highest number in English journals. There was a mean of 22.5 publications per year and 20.2% of articles had resident participation.

Conclusions.

Although the number of publications has remained constant during this period, an upward trend is observed in English-speaking articles. The participation of residents in the articles is low and raises the need to include research programs in the residency curriculum.
