FUENTES-BARRIA, Héctor e AGUILERA-EGUIA, Raúl. Radiotherapy and survival risk in dental implants: overview of systematic reviews. Rev Esp Cirug Oral y Maxilofac [online]. 2023, vol.45, n.1, pp.20-25. Epub 26-Jun-2023. ISSN 2173-9161. https://dx.doi.org/10.20986/recom.2023.1426/2023.
Radiotherapy is the main risk factor for oral rehabilitation with implants. The objective of this work was to evaluate, through a overview of systematic reviews, the survival of implants placed in mandibles irradiated compared with non-irradiated mandibles. An electronic search was carried out between 2018 and 2022 in the Medline / Pubmed, Scopus and Web of Science databases with the search strategy "Radiotherapy AND Dental Implants AND survival", selecting only systematic reviews with meta-analysis of randomized clinical studies and/or or observational. Thirty-eight records were identified, of which six were analyzed after applying the eligibility criteria. Their results showed a confirmation between radiotherapy and dental implant failure, with the reported implant survival rate being higher in non-irradiated areas compared to non-irradiated areas. irradiated. However, these differences between radiated and non-radiated bone reduce as time goes by, while the incidence of adverse effects such as osteoradionecrosis is low.
