MONTSERRAT BOADA, Carme. Kinship foster care: a study from the perspective of the caregivers, the children and the child welfare workers. Psychosocial Intervention [online]. 2006, vol.15, n.2, pp.203-221. ISSN 2173-4712.
In the last twenty years, in most of the western countries, kinship foster care has become an integral part of the childcare systems, and in addition they have experienced a growing evolution in what concerns the number of children, and its specific weight as a form of substitute care, in some countries even more frequent than the other placement options like family foster care and residential care. Research on this phenomena is still recent and scarce, as well as the programmes targeted at this population. In this article there are presented the results of a descriptive study on kinship foster care in the city of Barcelona, where information and data from the different involved stakeholders have been collected and presented. From a quality of life research perspective, perceptions, evaluation and expressed satisfaction are analysed, including caregivers, children and professionals from the teams specialised in children and adolescence (EAIA) in charge of the study and follow-up of kinship foster care cases. The research presented results are according with present research undertaken in this thematic area and settles the basis for a further development of kinship foster care programmes.
