Aim: To establish the level of knowledge of nursing students and clinical nurses about incontinence-associated dermatitis. Methodology: A cross-sectional study at the University and the Hospital of Jaen in 2015. Population: nursing students from 3rd and 4th grade and clinical nurses. Sociodemographic variables and variables to measure the level of knowledge were collected. The self-administered questionnaire consisted of 20 questions about the identifying aspects of this wound following the theoretical model developed by García-Fernández et al. Three Spanish experts in chronic wounds evaluated the questionnaire. Data analysis: sequential univariate descriptive variables and bivariate study for hypothesis testing using the parametric test t-Student, ANOVA and Spearman Rho coefficient for quantitative variables after checking normality criteria by testing Kolmogorov-Smirnov. When normality criteria were not met they were used nonparametric tests. A confidence level of 95% was used. Results: The number of completed questionnaires was 224. The average level of knowledge was 72.08 (standard deviation 11.39). Correct answer of 20 questions was considered 100% of knowledge. Statistically significant differences (p <0.006) in the level of knowledge between nursing students and clinical nurses were found. No statistically significant differences for the other variables were found. Conclusions: The level of knowledge of nursing students and clinical nurses about incontinence-associated dermatitis is medium-high.
