PALOMEQUE JIMENEZ, A.; CALZADO BAEZA, S. e REYES MORENO, M.. Cecal appendix involvement and simulation of an acute appendicitis in a patient with bowel disease produced by Campylobacter jejuni. Rev Pediatr Aten Primaria [online]. 2014, vol.16, n.61, pp.e33-e36. ISSN 1139-7632. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1139-76322014000100010.
Campylobacter jejuni is one of the most frequent causes of acute diarrhea in children. This germ is found widely distributed in our environment. Poultry and their products are the main reservoir and source of infection in humans. Although the most common presentation is watery diarrhea with fever, it can mimic other more serious abdominal problems, such as acute appendicitis. It may present with abdominal pain and signs of peritoneal irritation at the right iliac fossa, leading to surgery if there is not a correct differential diagnosis. We report a case treated in our hospital, discussing etiological mechanisms, clinical aspects and optimal therapeutic management.
