DIAZ TOBAJAS, Maria Celia; JUARROS ORTIZ, Natividad; GARCIA MARTINEZ, Blanca  e  SAEZ GAVILAN, Carolina. Study on anxiety in intensive care nursing professionals facing the process of death. Enferm. glob. [online]. 2017, vol.16, n.45, pp.246-265.  Epub 14-Dez-2020. ISSN 1695-6141.  https://dx.doi.org/10.6018/eglobal.16.1.232221.

Objective

Death in Intensive Care Units is a process often witnessed by nurses. Nurses are the group that spends more time with the patient and his or her family, and this spatial and temporal proximity leads to intense emotional reactions that, when not treated and channeled appropriately, end up in situations of anxiety and stress. For this reason, we decided to analyze with specific data the anxiety level of professionals facing this reality.

Material and methods

A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out among ICU nurses in the Complejo Asistencial Universitario of Burgos (CAUB), using Templer's anxiety scale and a questionnaire with socio-demographic variables.

Results

More than 40% of the nurses in the ICU of CAUB showed scores above the values considered as normal anxiety levels. This anxiety is not related to any of the variables studied.
