MARQUEZ-DIAZ, Rita Rocío. Interruption of the parent-child bond due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Case experience. Ene. [online]. 2022, vol.16, n.1, 1248.  Epub 19-Set-2022. ISSN 1988-348X.

The physical separation of parents and children after childbirth has a series of negative consequences on the general health of the infant and on breastfeeding in the short and long term. This paper presents the clinical case of a premature newborn born in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic who remained without family support in the hospital for two months since his parents had been infected and in home isolation. Likewise, it should be noted that in this long period of time he did not receive breast milk, since the health professionals erroneously informed the mother to discard it, arguing that she could transmit SARS-CoV-2. As a consequence of these decisions, problems arose such as alteration of the mother-child bond or unwanted interruption of breastfeeding. Once the parents tested negative for COVID-19, they obtained permission to enter the unit and be with their child 24 hours a day. Kangaroo care and relactation are then promoted, where the Nursing staff acquires a fundamental role.
