Introduction:

human errors can cause accidents, but it is not known how some health parameters influence it.

Objective:

To compare some health parameters collected through occupational medical examinations in mining workers who suffered work accidents and those who did not, between 2009 and 2014.

Methodology:

we did an analytical case control study of secondary data, which compared laboratory results (glycemia, hemoglobin, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides), BMI and age of workers who had a work accident versus those who did not have it in a mining camp at 4100 masl.

Results:

of the 3638 registries evaluated, 7.6% (278) belonged to workers who had suffered an work accident. In multivariate statistics, significant differences were found in three serum biochemical parameters. Those who had suffered had a higher LDL value (95% Confidence Interval (95% CI): 0-1%, p = 0.013). In contrast, these had lower values for glycemia (95% CI: 4-5, p value <0.001) and HDL cholesterol (95% CI: 1-6, p value = 0.026).

Conclusion:

there are some serum biochemical parameters that showed differences in subjects who had work accidents in the studied population, which requires more research to understand their behavior and possible contribution in the predictability of accidents.
