Patients treated in a health centre can present conditions related to the caregiving process itself. The negative effects, as a consequence of invasive procedures, imply high morbimortality, and infections acquired in those settings are one of the most frequents complications. Study aim: Identifying and describing the practice patterns of clinicians in terms of prevention in Primary Health Care. The qualitative methodology used was an emerging and open design that allowed for an in-depth insight of a complex reality that is barely known. Data collection was carried out through discussion groups. Setting: Primary care centres from the sanitary Area 6 of Madrid (Spain). Subjects: Physicians, nurses and nursing assistants that met the inclusion criteria. The sampling was purposeful, of maximum variability. Results: Data pondering and analysis led to awareness of the problem and adoption of an improvement strategy.
