PINA-MARTINEZ, Vanessa  e  CASTRO-SIERRA, Alfonso. Etiological factors involved in capsular contracture in aesthetic augmentation mammoplasty: observational pilot study. Cir. plást. iberolatinoam. [online]. 2016, vol.42, n.1, pp.13-20. ISSN 1989-2055.

Background and Objectives. Capsular contracture (CC) is the most common and frustrating complication in women who was been operated of breast augmentation. Nowadays capsular contracture cause is unknown. Often there are some factors with influence. Methods. We conduct a prospective observational studies and nested in a cohort of patients, conducted over 4 years. Results. The study determined that physical exercise is a risk factor in the development of CC and there is a 5 times more likely to develop CC in those patients who exercise compared to those who do not practice. Patients with CC do more physical exercise especially related to the mobility of the upper limbs, including soft aerobics, swimming and bodybuilding. Performing physical exercise produce friction between the capsule and the rough implants, and reached a moment, that friction may create small breaks in the periprosthetic capsule generating an inflammatory response. In addition, the business arm proved to be a dominant risk factor in the development of contracture, determining which side of the breast develops contracture. Microbiological findings of periprosthetic contracture capsules showed a greater degree of contracture in those implants with positive microbiological results, with Propionibacterium acnes and coagulasenegative staphylococci species of microorganisms found. Conclusions. Patients with breast implants who perform regular exercise present an increased risk of suffering capsular contracture.
