Main objective: Measure the coping and adaptation process of a group of single or coupled parents throughout their son postoperative congenital heart disease. Methodology: The research was descriptive, comparative crossing type. The sampling technique was simple random. Sample: 71 parents. Instrument: Process of coping and adaptation measurement scale, in Spanish (EsCAPS). Outcome: 69% female and 30.9% male, 47.8% early adult (20-30 years old), 52.1% middle adults (31-40 years old); Marital status: 43.6% cohabiting, 46.4% married and 9.8% single; Education level: 50.7% primary education and 49.2% higher education; Socioeconomic status: 30.9% stratum 2, 25.3% stratum 3, 23.9% stratum 1, 9.8% stratum 5, 7% stratum 4 and 2.8% stratum 6. Conclusion: The coupled parents as social support encourage the self coping process to promote adaptation to this situation.
