Introduction: Cultural competency is the ability to work effectively and sensitively in different cultural contexts. Objective: We present the results in relation to the diagnosis of professional´s cultural competence of the Project for Improving Clinical Cultural Competence of the health professionals of the institution Parc de Salut Mar. Methods: Cross sectional study using self-assessment questionnaire previously used in the European Migrant Friendly Hospitals. Results: The sample includes the totality of health care professionals (N=1685), from which 573 valid questionnaires were obtained. The results show that professionals perceive themselves having high level of clinical cultural competence knowledge, skills, and attitudes, with no significant differences by sex and age. Professionals valued as important cultural aspects in interactions with patients, relatives and others as well the importance of the cultural values, stereotypes and prejudices in these interactions. The results also show demand for training for this competence, which could be related to the degree of importance that professionals give. Conclusions: There is a perception of having a high level of cultural competence among professionals. These results should be compared with users´ care satisfaction degree provided in this area. Based on the encouraging results obtained, we suggest institutional policies to respond training demands of the health care professionals.
