Objective: test an action plan for the communication process of a Brazilian nursing team. Method: Qualitative convergent care research. The data production technique was the semistructured interview and participant observation, involving six nursing professionals from a public hospital in Rio de Janeiro. Thematic content analysis techniques were applied to the data. Results: The plan permitted the dialogical relation among the nursing professionals, making their communication effective, contributing to cooperation and teamwork, qualifying patient care. Conclusion: The plan was put in practice as a process technology, influencing the nursing care, as it made the professionals reflect on and modify their reality, gaining further control on the incidence of problems and their influences on care.
