LABRADA, A.  e  JIMENEZ-GARCIA, Y.. Preventive multimodal analgesia: a comparative study. Rev. Soc. Esp. Dolor [online]. 2004, vol.11, n.3, pp.122-128. ISSN 1134-8046.

Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of preventive multimodal analgesia for providing post-operative analgesia. Material and method: Prospective and comparative study of 120 patients undergoing appendectomy that were randomly divided into four groups: group I (control group), group II (magnesium metamizol), group III (diclofenac + magnesium metamizol) and group IV (bupivacaine + diclofenac + magnesium metamizol). The following outcomes were studied: severity of post-operative pain measured through a visual analogical scale (VAS). Based on the results obtained in each group and at each measurement point, contingency tables were created for their latter analysis using the Chi-square test. Hourly means were obtained in the 4 groups and paired-mean comparisons tests were performed with a confidence interval of 95% (α=0.05). Paired statistical comparisons were performed between the 4 groups at each measurement point, in order to compare differences between statistical values. Results: Post-operative analgesia improved in groups II, III and IV compared to group I; better results were obtained in group III compared to group II; and even better results were obtained in group IV compared to group II and group III. Conclusions: Satisfactory and statistically significant results were obtained with the use of multimodal preventive analgesia. The best results were obtained when combining magnesium metamizol and diclofenac intravenously administered with bupivacaine 0.25% infiltrated in the surgical area.
