RODRIGUEZ HERNANDEZ, lyemai. The serious neurosurgical patient: Nursing action. Enferm. glob. [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.21. ISSN 1695-6141.
The neurosurgical and neurological patients are particularly different from most other surgical patients. The brain has a limited response to injury and these responses occur in a compartment rigid, inflexible. Slight changes in blood pressure or temperature, which are easily tolerated by most patients can cause the destruction of a variable number of neurons in the neurosurgical and make the difference between a complete neurological recovery or a serious neurological deficit. In the ICU there is no better monitor the watchful eyes of the nurse. These observations are transcendent to evaluate the progress of intracranial complications, continuous auxiliary assistance and expert after surgery is vital to reducing the morbidity of many brain surgeries. From the above we intend to highlight the importance of continuous observation by nursing staff, this type of patient contributing to the early detection of complications that may arise.
