GARCIA-CABEZA, Ignacio  e  GONZALEZ DE CHAVEZ, M.. Group therapy in first episode psychoses. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2011, vol.31, n.2, pp.243-253. ISSN 2340-2733.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S0211-57352011000200005.

Aim: This study has aimed to evaluate the efficacy of group psychotherapy in the evolution of first episode psychosis. Methods: By means of a naturalistic study, we compared the evolution of 37 first episode psychoses after 6 years. Twelve came to group therapy and the rest received conventional treatment. Evaluation interviews were conducted at admission, one and 6 years. The methods used were PANSS, GAF, Grip on Life and a standardized semi-structured questionnaire. Results: The results at the end of the study were significantly better for patients who received group therapy for both symptomatic (positive-PANSS, negative-PANSS) and functional outcome (GAF, grip on life). Conclusion: Psychotherapeutic interventions, including group therapy, favors the recovery of the psychotic patient not only regarding specific symptoms but also in their overall functioning.
