RAMOS GARCIA, Javier. Pandemic and subjectivity. Vindication for a mentalizing stance against protocolized procedures and the indications for non-treatment. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.139, pp.37-65. Epub 04-Out-2021. ISSN 2340-2733. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352021000100004.
This paper takes the COVID-19 pandemic as a starting point in order to emphasize the importance of the subjective impact that this or other potentially traumatic circumstances can generate on each specific person. It warns about the risks of inter-ventions that, in one way or another, can lead to the neglect of individual subjectivity. Specifically, it reflects on the potential shortcomings of the protocolized procedures and the indications for non-treatment. Mentalizing is proposed as a crucial element in any psychotherapeutic action that is intended to be effective.
