GARCIA-ACOSTA, Jesús Manuel et al. Measuring negative attitudes and explicit transphobia in a public health service. Index Enferm [online]. 2020, vol.29, n.4, pp.210-214. Epub 01-Nov-2021. ISSN 1699-5988.
Trans* people frequently denounce attitudes of prejudice/transphobia by health professionals. The objective of this work is to evaluate the explicit prejudices/transphobia of health students and professionals and compare them with the general population in Tenerife. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with the Genderism and Transphobia Scale and Negative Attitude towards Trans* people Scales. A total of 602 participants completed the self-administered questionnaires. The results showed a very low level of explicit prejudice/transphobia. Both men and women were less transphobic with trans* people whose identities coincide with their own. Health professionals and those in other occupations show a similarly low level of explicit transphobia. Therefore, the barriers perceived by trans* people may not be a problem of prejudice but lack of specific training for our health professionals.
