Introduction:
The preparation of a thesis in the Faculty of Human Medicine of the Universidad Peruana Los Andes (UPLA) is one of the modalities for obtaining the title of medical surgeon. The student usually selects the subject taking into consideration the lines of research officialized in the faculty, not knowing if the selected and performed topics are relevant or timely with the regional and/or national epidemiological profile.
Aim:
To evaluate the relevance of the theses of the UPLA School of Human Medicine from 2014 to 2018 with the regional and/or national epidemiological profile.
Subjects and methods:
Quantitative, descriptive, observational, retrospective, cross-sectional study. Type of non-probabilistic sampling, intentional according to criteria.
Results:
A total of 243 theses were analyzed, 50.62% male gender. Most of the theses are in the line of research corresponding to medical-surgical pathology (32.51%) and the minority in morphology and physiology of the population of height (0.41%). 94.24% does not hypothesize, 99.18% used the quantitative method, 100% were observational, 59.67% retrospective, 100% cross-sectional and 88.89% used non-probabilistic sampling.
Conclusion:
The theses are not relevant to the regional and/or national epidemiological profile.
