We consider woman abuse as a result of the power relationships in our patriarchal society, and of the expressions of the gender issues that this society promotes between men and women. We analyze the link of the couple in which ill treatment takes place as a pathology of love, using the concept of "transformational object" by Christopher Bollas and that of "recognition" of the other as subject by Jessica Benjamin.
