The new spectre of antidepressant and other drugs has increased the chances of management of treatment-resistant depression. But what is really the meaning of this term. This article reviews the definitions of treatment-resistant depression, treatment response, nonresponse, remission, partial response; and also the strategies of augmentation and combination and the possible advantages of switching to a different monotherapy.
