After a brief review of the core issues that integer the concept of psychotherapy, this paper review the main tendencies in the evolution of psychotherapy across several themes: Delivery and demand of services; psychotherapy modalities; main intervention techniques; theoretical frames of reference; The practicing professionals, their trajectories and training environments and transnational exchange; lately research developments are considered. The description of the main challenges that facing psychotherapy and their professionals in a society under deep social and ideological changes are finally considered.
