Transsexuality represents an important health care problem. Its care was not included under the spanish public health service until 1999, thus hindering detailed systematic studies of spanish transsexuals. This report provides a summarized update of relevant basic knowledge in order to facilitate the approach to transsexualism and improve understanding of this disease.
