Introduction: The perception of the professionals who work in social attention services with severe mental disorder people, heads to the existence of differences between men and women's characteristics that arrive to these services. Material and Method: This work intends to be an approximation to the analysis of these differences. To achieve this objective we have compared the social, demographic, clinical and psychiatric profiles of men and women derived to Psychosocial Rehabilitation Centers located at San Fernando de Henares, at Alcalá de Henares and at La Elipa, which belongs to the Social Attention resources network for people who suffer severe mental illness in the Community of Madrid during a 5 years' period. During these years, a total of 302 persons were derived to these resources, 188 men and 114 women. The total sample was divided into two groups: men-women, and contingency tables were produced, and the statistical analysis referred to the before mentioned variables. Results: The analysis done indicates that women who are derived to these resources are older than men, they have in a wider range, a disability certificate, they perceive more non contributory invalidity pensions, they do not usually have a defined profession and finally they normally arrive to these resources after a longer evolution of their disorders.
