Abstract

Four years experience of inpatient group psychotherapy in the Brief Hospitalization Psychiatric Unit of the University Hospital 12 de Octubre (Madrid, Spain) are described. In this analysis the authors focus on the technical difficulties that this type of groups pose, the necessary changes to its management and the most effective therapeutic style. Finally, it highlights the utility of this approach in the achievement of therapeutic targets and the concordance with similar experiences conducted in other acute-care units in Spain.
