Abstract

ARROYO GUILLAMON, Rafael. Becoming a psychotherapist. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2017, vol.37, n.131, pp.79-94. ISSN 2340-2733.

This study analyses the training period and the first years of clinical practice of psychotherapists based on a personal experience of psychotherapeutic work of psychoanalytic orientation with patients with severe mental disorders. It highlights the need to include in daily practice a certain work on the therapist's emotional dimension, this being understood beyond personal analysis and supervisions. Assuming their lack, which implies the existence of the Other, professionals will be able to work not so much as technicians who have acquired certain skills, but as artists whose own singularity and creativity are reasons and driving forces their work. The traditional use of interpretation in psychoanalysis is also put into question. Instead, we suggest specific interventions using a different grading of the subject's speech to help the psychotherapist making a new reading of their discourse.

Keywords : psychotherapy; subject; Other; psychoanalytic interpretation; severe mental disorder.
