RODRIGUEZ PULIDO, Francisco; CABALLERO ESTEBARANZ, Nayra e ORAMAS PEREZ, Dácil. Studies on the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) strategy in getting ordinary employment for people with severe mental illness. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2017, vol.37, n.131, pp.145-168. ISSN 2340-2733.
For more than two decades, new strategies for getting regular employment for people with severe mental disorders have been incorporated, among them the so-called Individual Placement and Support (IPS). The present paper offers a review of studies on the IPS strategy and analyzes their quality in relation to vocational and non-vocational outcomes. With this goal, we consulted different databases from 1998 to December 2015 and obtained 1148 references, 81 of which were selected and 42 included: 23 randomized clinical trials, 11 systematic reviews and 8 comparative studies. The methodological quality of each of these studies was analyzed using the Jadad, the Oxman and the Estabrooks scales. In the randomized clinical trials, an average score of 2.12 (dt = 0.70) was obtained for all studies; an average score of 8.18 (dt = 1.89) was achieved for systematic reviews, and for comparative studies an average score of 18.13 (dt = 3.80). In general, the revised studies on the IPS strategy are of moderate quality in relation to non-vocational outcomes and very weak in relation to vocational outcomes.
