DE LA CALLE REAL, Mario e MUNOZ ALGAR, María José. Hikikomori: the youth social isolation syndrome. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2018, vol.38, n.133, pp.115-129. ISSN 2340-2733. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352018000100006.
Hikikomori is a disorder characterized by an asocial and avoidant behavior that leads to be apart from society. This disorder mainly affects adolescents or young people who isolate themselves from the world, remaining In the rooms of their parents house for an indefinite time, and may become confined during years. They reject any type of communication and their lives begin to revolve around the use of internet and new technologies. Such a phenomenon has emerged in many places with contemporary socio-economic environments, including a rigid educational system, irregular employment opportunities and widespread use of the Internet and online games. One of the main objectives at the psychosocial level is to detect these young people and promote their integration into their own social role, to enable them to return to school and their employments to integrate them into society. These interventions should be early, exhaustive and multidisciplinary. However, we consider that more research is needed for advancing knowledge on this controversial subject.
