Abstract

GONZALEZ GONZALEZ, Marta; GARCIA-HARO, Juan  and  GARCIA-PASCUAL, Henar. Contextual-phenomenological assessment of suicidal behaviour. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2019, vol.39, n.135, pp.15-31.  Epub Nov 11, 2019. ISSN 2340-2733.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352019000100002.

This article presents and discusses two perspectives of analysis and assessment of suicidal behaviour: the biomedical approach and the contextual-phenomenological one. Contrary to the biomedical model prevailing in mental health, this work bets for a defence of the contextual-phenomenological approach. Implications for therapeutic help are highlighted. It concludes that contextual-phenomenological assessment might be useful both in the suicide risk analysis and in obtaining all the necessary information to guide and plan therapeutic help for people in a suicidal crisis.

Keywords : assessment; phenomenology; suicide; suicide attempt; psychopathology.
