BORNHAUSER, Niklas. Disfigurement [Entstellung] –a defundamental concept for theory and practice. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2022, vol.42, n.141, pp.75-93. Epub 18-Jul-2022. ISSN 2340-2733. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352022000100005.
Regardless of the validity and fertility of the numerous and varied readings of Freud, these generally have a limited scope, conditioned by the consequences of conceiving Freud as a thinker of representation [Vorstellung]. In this sense, however successful they may be, they fail to be authentic rereadings, remaining within a restricted horizon of understanding –which, in some cases, may even be pre-Freudian–, without taking full advantage of the potential for rupture that the Freudian text harbors. The proposal is that these interpretations should be opposed by other readings articulated not from the notion of representation, but from something that is more than its mere reverse: Entstellung, disfigurement or dislocation. This concept, as illustrated by the complexities involved in its translation, focuses on the necessary reflections on the functioning of language and languages as a starting point for a reconsideration of the scope of psychoanalytic discourse. The purpose of this distinction is to show the differentiated theoretical and clinical performance that the consideration of the notion of Entstellung as a defoundational [entgrundsätzlich] concept has for its reading, i.e., one that in terms of its epistemic status not only renounces any pretension of cementing a fundamental ground, but actively aims at the corrosion of such a basal foundation [Grund].
