PACHECO-LARRUCEA, Sonsoles et al. The unusual development of the first chair of psychiatry by public competition in Spain. Madrid: 1933-1947. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2024, vol.44, n.145, pp.125-150. Epub 02-Ago-2024. ISSN 2340-2733. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352024000100007.
The main objective of this study is the historical development of the process by which the first chair of Psychiatry was covered, by public competition, in a Spanish Faculty of Medicine. The first announcement was in 1933, but it took fourteen years to be resolved. The numerous opponents along the years, various university courts, six calls and three types of contests will be analyzed. These unusual processes, that led to declaring the chair empty four times, an unusual event in Spanish medical schools, will be discussed.
