CARDELLE-PEREZ, Federico y DOMINGUEZ-SANTOS, María Dolores. Notes on effectiveness and efficiency of mental health day hospital programs for children and adolescents. Rev. Asoc. Esp. Neuropsiq. [online]. 2024, vol.44, n.145, pp.213-228. Epub 02-Ago-2024. ISSN 2340-2733. https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/s0211-57352024000100011.
Day hospitals are intermediate intensive treatment programs with a multidisciplinary approach and focused on the community. Favorable cost-effectiveness would be a fundamental reason for health authorities to continue their implementation.
Method:
We have carried out an integrative review of day hospital programs for children and adolescents, focusing on their effectiveness and efficiency and considering the diagnoses of the patients attended.
Results.
Some findings in the literature are favorable in terms of effectiveness and efficiency for a group of disorders, although they suffer from limitations.
Discussion.
Its heterogeneous nature poses difficulties for clinical research. There are several methodological difficulties for the generalization of results.
Conclusions.
We must insist on the importance of designing new studies to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of day care programs for children and adolescents. A coordinated effort is needed to evaluate current models of care in a standardized way, as well as to conduct specific clinical guidelines for this population.
