GRANDE COVIAN, F.; ROF CARBALLO, J. e JIMENEZ GARCIA, F.. Nutrition and child development II: a comparison of physical development in two school children groups with different income level (Rev Clin Esp 1944; 12:155-164). Nutr. Hosp. [online]. 2014, vol.30, n.3, pp.708-718. ISSN 1699-5198. https://dx.doi.org/10.3305/nh.2014.30.3.7709.
The comparison study of two school children groups with different income level shows that those from a poor peripheral district of Madrid suffer from a delay in their physical development, with weight and height measurements below their age standard. Weight delay is proportionally higher than that of the height. A 2.94 years delay is observed when applying WET-ZEL to these groups of children within an average age of 10.14. The global delay in the somatic development represents 29% of the average chronological age. This delay in the development may be mostly due to causes related to diet, not only to specific deficiencies, but rather to deficient amounts in the overall food intake. From the quality point of view, milk deficiency is probably one of the main factors linked to the origin of this development disorder.
