Abstract

ALBIOL, Silvia et al. Personality traits (ZKPQ) of patients with fibromyalgia: a case-control study. Anal. Psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.30, n.3, pp.937-943. ISSN 1695-2294.  https://dx.doi.org/10.6018/analesps.30.3.153791.

This is the first study determining the relationship between fibromyalgia and the Zuckerman-Kuhlman Personality Questionnaire (ZKPQ), and one of the few that establishes the relationship between this diagnosis and normal personality traits. A sample of female adults diagnosed with fibromyalgia (n = 47) was paired by age and sex with normal-range controls (n = 94). Logistic regression analysis showed that high scores on Neuroticism-Anxiety and low scores on Sociability were the most powerful predictors of being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The ZKPQ with its specific subscales and control scale provides a more refined personality assessment of these patients. Physicians and psychologists are encouraged to work together toward a personalized psychological assessment of fibromyalgia to build a comprehensive model for a better conceptualization of this medical condition.

Keywords : Personality; fibromyalgia; ZKPQ; neuroticism; pain.
