Abstract

MARCOLINO CRUZ, D et al. Long-term retrospective study of treatment with single dental implants. Av Odontoestomatol [online]. 2024, vol.40, n.spe, pp.109-116.  Epub Oct 14, 2024. ISSN 2340-3152.

Introduction:

TImplant dentistry constitute a therapeutic modality in the prosthodontic treatment of patients with partial and total tooth loss. This study reports the long-term evaluation of patients treated with single crowns by loading of single implants.

Methods:

117 patients with single-tooth loss were treated with Galimplant® internal connection and sandblasted and acid-etched surface implants. Implants were loaded after a healing period of 6 weeks (mandible) and 8 weeks (maxilla). Clinical findings (implants and prosthodontics) were followed during 10 years.

Results:

163 implants were inserted, 123 maxillary (75.5%) and 40 mandibular (24.5%) for prosthodontic rehabilitation with single-tooth crowns. 61 implants (37.4%) were inserted in anterior sites and 102 (62.6%) in posterior sites. After 10-year follow-up, clinical results indicate a survival and success rate of implants of 93.9%. 4 implants (2.4%) were lost during the healing period by mobility, while 6 implants (3.7%) were lost by peri-implantitits. Technical complications showed 12 cases (7.4%) of ceramic fracture.

Conclusions:

Clinical results of this study indicate that single crowns supported by single implants and can be a successful dental treatment.
