Abstract

JORVA-GARCIA-DE CASASOLA, C et al. Autologous dentin as graft for alveolar ridge preservation. Systematic review. Av Odontoestomatol [online]. 2025, vol.41, n.spe, pp.16-25.  Epub Mar 25, 2025. ISSN 2340-3152.

Background:

after tooth loss, the alveolar crest physiologically undergoes a bone remodeling process that results in a dimensional reduction. Autologous dentin (AD) is an example of a biomaterial, which has demonstrated similar and even better properties than other biomaterials when used for alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) techniques.

Material and method:

a literature review was conducted by searching the MEDLINE (PubMed), Scopus, and Cochrane databases until July 31, 2024, to identify randomized clinical trials that used AD for ARP.

Results:

a total of 963 publications were obtained. After applying the inclusion criteria, removing duplicate articles, and proceeding to manual screening, 4 articles with a total of 122 patients were included.

Discussion:

AD is shown to be an effective material in ARP, as it minimizes dimensional changes in the ridge compared to spontaneous healing. Furthermore, compared to xenograft, it shows similar clinical properties and could reduce the time between extraction and placement of osseointegrated implants.

Keywords : autogenous tooth; autogenous dentin; autogenous dentin matrix; alveolar preservation; alveolar ridge preservation.
