Abstract

UMANZOR BONILLA, V et al. Analysis of sagittal root classification by cone beam tomography in the premaxilla in a Honduran population: retrospective cross-sectional study. Av Odontoestomatol [online]. 2025, vol.41, n.1, pp.19-24.  Epub May 12, 2025. ISSN 2340-3152.

Purpose:

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the sagittal root position (PSR) of the anterior teeth and report the frequency of each classification using CBCT in a sample of a Honduran population.

Materials and methods:

A cross-sectional study was carried out where the PSR prevalence was evaluated according to the Kan et al classification of the upper anterior teeth using CBCT. The tooth was taken as the unit for all analyses. Descriptive statistics were used using the SPSS program to demonstrate the frequency of each class and distribution of each organ. The association and agreement between the PSR classes in the contralateral teeth was evaluated using the chi-square test and Cohen's Kappa coefficient.

Results:

The PSR analysis was performed on a total of 156 teeth. The analysis of frequency distribution in the 156 teeth found was as follows; 65% (class I), 19% (class II), 1.98% (class III) and 18% (class IV) respectively.

Conclusions:

In the sample evaluated of the PSR in a Honduran population, the most frequent type was Class I, which is the most favorable in the immediate placement of the implant, but a high prevalence was also found in Class IV, which indicates the non-immediate placement of the implant. The data obtained can be used as a reference in the decision-making process when placing immediate implants.

Keywords : sagittal root position; CBCT; alveolar process; immediate implants.
