Hyaline clear cell carcinoma is a rare salivary tumor, accounting for less than 1 % of cases. It typically localizes within the oral cavity, with its presence in the base of the tongue being exceptional and scarcely documented. Clinical manifestations are nonspecific and depend on the tumor's size and location, most commonly presenting as a painless mass with progressive growth. Diagnosis follows histopathological and immunohistochemical criteria, and the preferred treatment approach involves surgical resection, possibly complemented by adjuvant radiotherapy. Despite being classified as a malignant neoplasm, it displays low aggressiveness, exhibits a low rate of regional and distant metastases, and can be associated with a favorable prognosis.
This article presents a case of a 68-year-old woman diagnosed with clear cell carcinoma at the base of the tongue. Diagnostic tests, treatment procedures, and histopathological study images are provided. A literature review is conducted to update knowledge about this rare neoplasm.
