VEGA BARRETO, Víctor et al. Oral cavity lipoblastoma: review of the literature regarding two cases. Rev Esp Cirug Oral y Maxilofac [online]. 2024, vol.46, n.2, pp.90-94. Epub 11-Nov-2024. ISSN 2173-9161. https://dx.doi.org/10.20986/recom.2024.1552/2024.
Lipoblastoma is an uncommon benign tumor of adipocytic lineage that typically occurs in pediatric age. Histologically is characterized by the presence of mature and immature adipocytes immersed in a myxoid stroma. Its most frequent location is the trunk (71 %), followed by the extremities (27 %), and cervical (10-15 %), being extremely rare in the oral cavity.
Two clinical cases of two adult patients were diagnosed with intraoral lipoblastoma treated by surgical resection with margins are presented. Due to its low incidence in adults and the rare location in the oral cavity, we conducted a literature review of the main clinical and pathological characteristics of this tumor along with its diagnosis, treatment, and local recurrence rate.
