Disease Management (DM) represents one of the faster growing areas in terms of investment and coverage in the US managed care market. The aim of this article is to provide a description about the principles and methodology of DM, a review of the current results and an approach to the boundaries and opportunities of such a health care delivery and organization system in a public health system like the Spanish one.
