Abstract

REPISO MORENO, M.; VELEZ DE MENDIZABAL, E.  and  ELIZONDO PERNAUT, Mª J.. IgA multiple myeloma: review of one case . Medifam [online]. 2002, vol.12, n.2, pp.108-112. ISSN 1131-5768.

The multiple myeloma is a disorder characterised by a proliferation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow and production of a monoclonal inmunoglobulin.  We report a case of a IgA multiple myeloma and we describe the epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of this disease.  It is very important to differenciate it from the gammopathy of undetermined significance, the most common cause of the presence of a monoclonal component in serum or urine, wich not requires chemotherapy. The follow- up of this patients has shown that multiple myeloma develops in up to 16 percent.

Keywords : Multiple myeloma; Paraproteinemia; Plasma cells.
