GARCIA DE FRANCISCO, A. and PRIETO ZANCUDO, C.. Traveler's consultation (III): Following the progression after the travel. Medifam [online]. 2002, vol.12, n.3, pp.65-75. ISSN 1131-5768.
The traveler´s consultation do not finish at the end of the travel. It is very important to follow the progression of the traveler in the family practice consultation after the travel. In this consultation the physician have to register the incidences happened in the travel in the medical record, the adherence to the treatments and prophylaxis, adverse events of the medicaments, and so on. Finally the physician must to realize a screening about different tropical diseases prevalent in the travel, when the traveller has signs and symptoms of the sickness. It is very important to know the period of incubation of many tropical diseases, because they can produce signs and symptoms relapses like the malaria of the plasmodium vivax and ovale (months or years after the infection). The physician has to register in the medical record the kind of travel (travel of high or low risk), the period that the traveler stayed in the foreign country, vaccines and prophylaxis suitable and the screenings realized about different diseases. When the physician follows all these parts of the consultation, we can say that the traveler´s consultation is finished.
