Care of the dependent elderly is a topic of considerable public concern in view of recent social changes and it is important to know and analyse the viewpoint of nurses. This article discusses the repercussions that nursing attitudes and behaviour may have on the elderly and their caregivers and considers the changes that should be introduced to adapt to new circumstances and provide better care.
