Abstract
CARRASCO ACOSTA, Mª del Carmen; JIMENEZ DE MADARIAGA, Celeste and MARQUEZ GARRIDO, Manuel. Fibromyalgia: When pain is a life story. Index Enferm [online]. 2010, vol.19, n.2-3, pp.196-200. ISSN 1699-5988.
Fibromialgia (FM) is a little-treated illness characterised by pain and chronic fatigue. It is prevalent in 3-4% of the population, at a ratio of 10 females to every male (10:1). Research in which patients are the protagonists is scarce, and for that reason we intend to: discover the perceptions and experiences of people who suffer from Fibromialgia as a total socio-cultural fact, and involving the associations which these same people belong to. To achieve this aim, a life story has been used. We will present the case of Marta, who was a key source of information in the study.
Keywords : Fibromialgia; Life story; Qualitative research; Nursing; Anthropology of health.
