Stress is an emotional process of an adaptive type that people sometimes suffer to face threats or difficult situations in their daily life. However, if the stress is extended in time, it could be an important health risk factor. The main goal of this paper is to present stress from a historical point of view. That perspective can help us to understand the repercussion of stress in our health and the rate of interference both in our daily life decision making, and in our professional tasks. The nursing approach to stress can contribute to help the way in which nursing professionals take care of the patient, considering that every patient is individual.
