Abstract

MUNOZ SANCHEZ, Alba Idaly; RUBIANO MESA, Yurian Lida  and  LAZA VASQUEZ, Celmira. The adherence to antituberculosis treatment: voices of those involved. Index Enferm [online]. 2011, vol.20, n.1-2, pp.66-70. ISSN 1699-5988.  https://dx.doi.org/10.4321/S1132-12962011000100014.

Tuberculosis has been a constant in human history and currently are estimated more than 9.27 million people infected worldwide, mostly concentrated in poor regions and also victims of the HIV / AIDS: Asia, Africa and the Americas. One of the ongoing challenges in the fight for control of the disease is to prevent the abandonment or non-adherence to treatment by carriers. In this review article examines, from scientific literature, the meanings of the adhesion of carriers and professionals working in TB control programs. Meanings revealed o the involved ones are: dramatic changes on life style, the burden generated by the treatment for carriers and their families, the social stigma of TB for both, and the implementation of a DOTS strategy (Directly Observed Treatment short-course) for health professionals.

Keywords : Pulmonary tuberculosis; Adherence; Meanings; Carriers; Health professionals.
