Abstract

Main objective: To investigate the spiritual welfare of the nursing staff and the provision of spiritual care for the same. Methodology: quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, with 95 members of the nursing staff of a general hospital. Data collection used a sociodemographic questionnaire and Scale Spiritual Wellness. Main results: The professionals had spiritual well-being and existential well-being and moderate religious high. As regards the provision of spiritual care, despite the religious involvement and consider important to the provision of spiritual care, only a small number of professionals providing this type of care. Conclusion: spirituality presents itself as a way to promote the mental health of nursing professionals, and can be used as a coping strategy by the same stress situations characteristics of this profession. It indicates even greater attention to the training of professionals for the provision of spiritual care, which requires skill and expertise.
