ORTEGA LARREA, Susana; GARCIA ORELLAN, Rosa and ORTEGA LARREA, Ana. The social construction of silence surrounding induced abortion. Index Enferm [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.4, pp.243-247. ISSN 1699-5988.
Purpose: to analyze the experience of women who have had an abortion and the damaging consequences of abortion in their lives and their bodies. The purpose is also to find out whether there exists any social structure or support for women who have had an abortion. Methodology: The study followed a qualitative methodology, using Phenomenological Analysis, in order to study twenty women's narratives about their own induced abortion. Results: The aspects derived from social silence are the following: social perception about the insignificance of abortion, the taboo of abortion related to the bio-power imposed on women's body. Conclusion: Abortion is discussed in terms of legal, social, moral or political aspects; however what transcends the abortions itself is ignored, as abortion is socially reduced to ideological schemes.
