Abstract

Justification: the academic's immersion in the child's assistance in the city's reality reveals a different scenario from his own childhood. To understand this experience, a quilt was constructed. Objective: to introduce the quilt as a tool for data collection in a qualitative research. Method: a case study of collective's type. Prinicpal Results: reading and re-reading the data in the Quilt that was build, it enabled the development of three empirical categories: The experience of childhood itself: significant experiences; Games; Memories and feelings of childhood: the construction of today's human being. Conclusion: this immersion allowed a critical and reflective view of this reality, but required the use of personal protective mechanisms and feelings of his own childhood in this nursing's assistance confrontation.
