Abstract
BAIXINHO, Cristina Lavareda; DIXE, Maria dos Anjos and HENRIQUES, Maria Adriana. Managing the environment to prevent falls in the institutionalized elderly: protocol validation. Index Enferm [online]. 2018, vol.27, n.1-2, pp.72-76. ISSN 1699-5988.
Objective:
to validate the contents of a protocol with the nursing interventions for the management of the risk of fall associated to the environment in nursing homes.
Method:
methodological study, quantitative approach, using the Delphi technique, to obtain consensus. The review of the literature and observation in clinical practice contexts made possible the construction of an instrument with 40 indicators, which was sent electronically to a group of experts (14), who met the defined inclusion criteria and who accepted participate freely in the study. The anonymity was guaranteed, as well as the confidentiality of the data.
Results:
the indicators of the protocol are organized in three dimensions: 1) Managing the safety of the elderly (IRA =, 8); 2) Manage the physical space (IRA =, 1); and 3) Monitor and communicate changes (IRA =, 88) with a CVI =, 96. These dimensions represent, in the protocol, the nursing interventions for the control of the environmental factors of fall risk.
Conclusions:
the results of the reliability test (> 0.8) guarantee that the nursing interventions proposed for environmental management are valid and should be implemented in long-term residences for the elderly in order to prevent the fall of the elderly Institutionalized.
